Today I ventured out to the International Day of Peace organised by the Geelong City Council and The Interfaith Group. It’s a few days early, but on the 21st of September it is the International Day of Peace, where weapons and war are laid down as a global cease fire is called. With all that has been happening in Europe with whole populations of people needing to move because of war I had to take some action. That action was through attending this rally of Peace and Harmony through different cultures, religions and countries of origins. For more information click here UN International Day of Peace (…if it succeeds lets hope the make it a week, month or year next time!)
Each person was given a flag to hold of one of the UN recognised countries. We all said the words “May Peace be in…(name of country)”. It felt so good watching the flag of Syria and every other country being waved in the sun and a large number of people voicing their hope of Peace. There are a lot of them and even recognising how many countries there are and how many have struggled with Peace at times was very revealing. Standing on the stage I felt the Joy of Hope. Things can change and will change. And it starts with us being peaceful assertive people.
Some great points were made during the speeches…
- We Are All One People: we have more to share and we are in this all together on planet Earth
- Peace begins with Us and Our own Families: it is time to stop tearing ourselves apart and time to stand up and make the difference to the world
- It is only by learning each others stories that we grow and feel we are one
The people there were from all different backgrounds, countries, abilities, religions and it was a wonderful celebration. International World Peace Day is on the 21st of September. We are all encouraged to celebrate the Peace that exists and encourage it to grow and thrive in this world of ours. May you find a moment to find the Peace within.
