The Power of Acceptance

There have been a couple of situations I have observed lately where people have become upset, annoyed, frustrated, and angry because they couldn’t understand why another person was behaving the way the were, and without being able to understand they continued to spiral in negative thought patterns, trying to come up with rational explanations. It was sad to see this happen as it didn’t need to. If each of those people had been able to accept the situation and actions of that person then they could have moved on and been a lot happier in the rest of their day. Is it any wonder that anxiety, depression and other mental health issues are having such affects on the lives of so many. Our lack of acceptance, because we don’t understand, means that these people and their families have so much more to overcome as people reserve judgement and acceptance until they understand.

I watched a clip of an interview between Wayne Dyer and Abraham Hicks and they revealed that when you die things are not explained, there is no illumination of the questions you had whilst living on Earth, those questions dissipate and there is simply an Acceptance of all that was and is. I am not subscribing to all the teachings of Abraham Hicks but there seemed to be some resonance for me with the Power of Acceptance.

If we continue to judge people and only accept them once we understand then we will be caught up in the drama of attributing meaning on their actions, words and ways of living. There is no one right path. All paths lead to the same destination. So why do we need to evaluate other people, is it an attempt to ascertain and make ourselves right? Surely when we make other people wrong and the “baddies” we become the Righteous and the Good?

The Power of Acceptance, without the need to understand has huge implications to me. It negates the need to judge another and empowers the acceptance of the beauty and vitality of the individual in all their uniqueness. Acceptance is also about Respecting the person, showing them Love simply for being who they are. Many of the worlds most vicious crimes have come through a lack of understanding and therefore lack of acceptance.

The greatest gift with in Acceptance is the Self-Acceptance. To empower yourself to live your own unique life without judgement; without negative criticism; without the “should of”‘s. Being in a state of Awareness, accepting with Grace all that is and returning within to that state of Awareness would surely help us to live happy, vibrant, joyful lives.

Going to the beach accepting your body as it is, and loving the way the water moves around it, gently caressing the skin, how the waves push you back and forth and the amazing thrill  of catching a wave into shore.

If you lack self acceptance then that experience is lost as you berate yourself for being overweight, the swimwear being old or out of fashion and you continually worry what others may be thinking about you.

Acceptance is not letting people do the “wrong” thing and getting away with it. But it is acting then letting it go. When we continue to think about it, mull it over, try to psycho-analyse it, attribute possible meanings to it, when we invest so much energy into it that we lose the ability to actually enjoy life in the present moment we need the Power of Acceptance because this enables us to let the pain and trauma we have associated with the events to dissipate and we are then free to enjoy our own lives.

The Power of Acceptance is the Power to Let Go,. It is the Path to freedom and to enjoying all the experiences life has to offer.

About R Congues

Funny enough, this blog has become the expression of my hopes, dreams, love and experiences. It came about because of the situation I discovered I was in, and I am delighted to see it grow and heal into something different: I am a parent of two children, one who has experienced severe anxiety that became disabling in all aspects of their life. I am a teacher of Maths, Science and Religious Education with a Masters in Special Needs Education; I am a qualified Reiki master, with a love of art and creative experience. I am not a professional in the fields of psychology or medicine. (If you are interested in these perspectives there are many internet sites to use.) I am simply expressing my experience in my own unique way.
