For my Son

For my Son:

He is beauty, his laughter lights up the room,

He shows courage and grace, when stepping out of his zone.

He knows when to withdraw and breathe and recoup,

for all the courageous effort depletes his reserves.

We travel distance, Torquay, Daylesford, Sydney, Hawaii, Peru,

with space for his energy to continue to renew.

We ask very little but invite and encourage,

We joke laugh and giggle and give him space to be alone.

We chose to support him with limited intervention,

With supports in place and a home that is safe;

Safe in space and demands, safe with the people who are here,

A home of peace and quiet, yet creative and flair.

For my son is unique and we love watching him grow,

Driving us around on his learners and shopping for clothes.

He has restarted his studies and with support I know,

He will expand his horizons and live a life wonderful.

With Patience, Understanding, Acceptance and Humour,

We continue this path with him at the helm and us in the role of support.
