Walk this Land!

The time of the walk from Mountain to Mouth
Came with the gifts of beauty and light
I missed the beginning, joining in the next day
With the people, exhausted and worn out in the fray.

The morning gathering

The whisper of morning was where i began
Tendrils of sun, winding it’s way through the sky
The silence of night disturbed by the chatter
Of walkers, canoe and flag bearers, ready and happy

The circle of water pots boiling over with mist
The twinkling of lights reminding of the past that yet exists
The bottles of old, beacons of welcome
The smiles of the walkers, ever friendly to all

Home for a rest, for the end journey to come
Point Lonsdale beckons, with sea and sand under toe
Disgruntled and tired the walk on land took it’s toll
Yet victorious the walkers continued the new and the old

The canoe carrying the water from the water hole at the You Yangs to the mouth of the Barwon river.

Connecting with the land, ever changing, ever present
Understanding we are nature, transforming the living
Earth, Sea, Sky with our thoughts and actions
The need for conservation, the survival of the adaptable

The conservationists for the hooded plover, an endangered bird that we saw on the walk

The wooden trees of life beckoned each persons heart
Dream catches reminding that the dream is the start
The journey of just one step is all that it takes
To find the inner beacon of Love that resonates

The Messages of hope written on driftwood, surrounded by trees of life and new beginnings.

Supporting the weary as the last league began
An honor and a privilege to hear the stories sang
The canoe departed with symbolic hope and drama
In flames upon the water, reduced to mere ashes

Burning of the Canoe that journeyed from the You Yangs to Barwon Heads 80km

Night to Day to Night; the song line has been sung
The land upon which we walk celebrated
It is up to us now to remember those came before and after
We are the caretakers, we are responsible.
